A plumber’s work directly affects the health and safety of the entire nation. Their scope of work is what keeps our homes, towns and cities healthy. Plumbers help eliminate water & sanitation-related illnesses by providing safe, clean drinking water, and equip healthcare centres with medical gas supply. Plumbers provide our lifelines.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair and maintain plumbing fixtures & systems
  • Use a variety of tools & work with multiple types of materials
  • Braze, solder and use heavy equipment
  • Interpret drawings and review codes & specifications
  • Inspect and diagnose various problems with piping systems
  • Locate and mark positions for fixtures & pipe connections
  • Cut openings to accommodate pipes & fittings

What You’ll Need

Entrance Requirements

Academic requirements for entry into this trade are not related to high school grade level. If you don’t have Grade 12, contact Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trades Commission to have your academic qualifications assessed.

Apprenticeship Program:
Approximately 4-5 years, includes Safety, UA Local Apprenticeship and Provincial Apprenticeship training, as well as technical and on-the-job training, and exam. Journeyperson certificate awarded after successful completion. As an apprentice, you also earn while you learn.
